    亨利開始下滑。夏洛特跟在後面。

    劉俊豪的速度越來越快。他呼吸急促。前方是一個陡坡。

    劉俊豪：媽呀！

    劉俊豪兩腿一歪，摔倒下去，人和滑雪板一起往下滾。

    亨利從陡坡上躍下而去。

    夏洛特加速滑到劉俊豪身邊，突然將滑雪板一橫，自己側身臥倒在雪地上，同時伸手去抓劉俊豪的衣服。夏洛特抓住劉俊豪，兩人躺在雪道上向下滑，夏洛特的滑雪鞋在山坡雪地颳起片片雪浪。終於，兩人慢慢停了下來。

    夏洛特：Are you okay (你沒事吧？)

    劉俊豪喘氣：Thank you so much! I don’t know I am okay or not, but I know I am not injured. (太謝謝你了！我不知道是不是有事，但我知道我沒有受傷。)

    夏洛特牽著劉俊豪的一隻手：Good. Stand up slowly with your skis perpendicular to the course way. That’s right. (好。慢慢站起來，讓滑雪板垂直滑雪道。就這樣。)

    劉俊豪感激地看了一眼夏洛特的臉。

    ……火車上。劉俊豪看著夏洛特的臉。

    劉俊豪驚喜：It’s you who saved my life on top of Grouse Mountain last winter! (去年冬天在格勞斯山頂上，是你救了我的命！)

    夏洛特笑：Are you kidding me Yes, I saved somebody last winter. Are you sure it was you (你開玩笑吧？去年冬天我是救了一個人。但你敢肯定那是你？)

    劉俊豪：Yes, yes, it was me. Thank you so much. If I have opportunity, I would return your kindness. (對對，是我。太謝謝你了！如果有機會，我一定會報答你的。)

    夏洛特：Now, you are helping me. (你現在就在幫助我。)

    一名男列車員走來，向他們微笑。

    列車員：Hi! How are you doing (喂，你們好嗎？)

    夏洛特：Good. Thank you. How about you (好，謝謝，你好啊！)

    列車員：Thank you. May I see you tickets (謝謝！我能看一下你們的票嗎？)

    夏洛特：We』ve just gotten on board at Whistler. How much for two tickets to Quesnel (我們剛從威斯勒上車。兩張到魁奈爾的票要多少錢？)

    列車員在他的電子售票機上按鍵：Okay. Two tickets from Whistler to Quesnel, plus tax, totally 162 dollars. (好，兩張從威斯勒到魁奈爾的票，加上稅，一共是162元。)

    夏洛特從牛仔褲口袋掏出錢來，交給列車員。列車員接過錢收好，將兩張票遞給夏洛特。

    列車員：Thank you. Are you from Vancouver (謝謝！你們是溫哥華人吧？)

    夏洛特抬起頭，莫名其妙地望著列車員：Why do you want to know (你為什麼想知道？)

    列車員忙陪笑：Sorry. I am just curious. Wish you a nice trip. See you. (對不起，我只是好奇。祝你們旅途愉快。再見。)

    列車員不再檢查其他旅客的車票，大步離去。夏洛特皺著眉頭望著列車員的背影。

    劉俊豪：Anything wrong (有什麼不對勁嗎？)

    夏洛特：You stay here. (你在這裡別動。)(起身，遠遠跟在列車員身後離去。)

    第8章 第8集　體育之都的遺憾The Tournament Capital

    魁奈爾鎮(Quesnel)。菲沙河(Fraser River)與魁奈爾河(Quesnel River)匯流口，菲沙河上的墨發大橋(Moffat Bridge)，寫有「Quesnel, Gold Pan City」(魁奈爾――金盤市)的藍色大盤，哈德森灣商店(Hudson Bay Store)，柯尼詩水車(Cornish Water Wheel)，水邊公園(Riverfront Park)，等。

    18世紀60年代，這個小鎮是淘金者沿菲沙河北上淘金的必經之地。

    數輛警車從墨發大橋呼嘯而過。

    警車內。

    警官甲：Thank you for your information, Sir. We are heading for Quesnel train station. Do you have a picture of the suspects … No …No, don’t do that. Just feel like nothing happens. Okay … We can contact Vancouver RCMP and they will send us a picture. How long will you arrive … Three hours Good. Driving into the station and stop the train but don’t open the door until we get on and find the suspects. Thank you. Bye. (謝謝你的消息！我們正前往魁奈爾火車站。你有沒有嫌犯的照片？……沒有？……不行，不要那樣做。你們還是像什麼事都沒發生一樣，明白嗎？……我們會跟溫哥華王室騎警聯繫，他們會給我們寄照片的。你們多長時間才能到？……三個小時？好。列車開進站停下後別開門，直到我們上車找到嫌犯為止。謝謝，再見。)

    火車上。夏洛特急匆匆走回座位，在劉俊豪身邊坐下，神色緊張。兩人小聲說話。

    劉俊豪：What’s wrong (怎麼了？)

    夏洛特：We need to get off before the train arrive at Quesnel. (我們必須在到達魁奈爾之前下車。)

    劉俊豪：How Is there a stop before Quesnel (怎麼下？在魁奈爾之前還有站嗎？)

    夏洛特：No. (沒有。)

    隔壁座位有一個白人老頭在用手機打電話，不久打完，收起電話。

    夏洛特拿出手機，假裝撥號，放到耳朵聽，接著重重地關上電話，小聲地咒罵(無配音)。

    夏洛特對白人老頭：Excuse me, sir. (對不起，先生。)

    老頭微笑：What can I help you (要幫忙嗎？)

    夏洛特：You are so kind, sir. My brother got sick and is in hospital. I want to know his situation. But, uh, my cell phone has no battery. (你心真好，先生。我哥哥受傷在醫院裡。我想知道他的情況。但是，我的手機沒電池了。)
